Alcohol Literacy
I have had many personal experiences throughout my life to know alcohol can be a very horrible, addictive drug. I have had two alcoholic fathers in my life. They both ruined their marriage with my mother because of the drug. Both men have had life threatening health problems. One has very high blood sugar and diabetes. He does not go to the doctor because he does not have insurance or a steady job. I blame this on the drugs he has been on his entire life. His blood sugar was at its highest at 500+. The other has it much worse. He has ulcers, diverticulitis, acid reflux, and most recently cirrhosis of the liver. He was hospitalized to drain the fluid. This disease and addiction is killing him. I have also had experiences with drunk friends where relationships were ruined. It is common for people to become aggressive when they are drunk and this could get so bad that they kill someone. Alcohol is also a depressant, which may make people want to kill themselves. Drunk drivers also kill many people, including themselves. These are all things that alcohol can cause, but it can also bring good things too. While I have became literate in the bad things alcohol can bring, I have also had good experiences with it. I first drank when I was 14 years old, and I have been responsible with it since. Drinking can be a fun, social interaction. Through my life I have became literate in alcohol through sponsors and experience.
